James Blake

So this is an album that has been hyped up for a long time now and now its out so whats the opinion on it?
The first thing you notice about this album is that it creates such an atmosphere. The snyth  creates drama in the song and fills out the texture to all the songs. I did however find myself getting upset that a song had built its self up to then just cut like in ‘Unluck’. The vocoder on the vocals works really well, But the songs where James Blake sings and sings back up vocals for him self are some what Interesting. I know, I don’t think they work that well. Interesting concept but its ends just sloppy in my opinion. The album is rich in texture and in my opinion is not a summer album, it feels really cold. Not so cold but its not exactly littered with major chord progressions. The production on this album is incredible. The ending of ‘I Never Learnt To Share’ especially with its heavy synth swirls and pulsing bass lines really gives you something to nod your head to. The ambient production especially on the voice in ‘Lindisfarn I’ is amazing, the vocals almost make enough sound to last the track, you can hear a very quiet swirl just after every line very low in the mix. Great Idea, really enjoyed that song. Also on reflecting this album I think its a glimpse of how dubstep will move and progress in the coming years, on ‘Limit to your Love’ the bass is not too overpowering, it sits in the mix beautiful and punches through when needed, this could be a glimpse to what may come.
At just under 40 minutes its not a hard album to listen to over and over again. But its very chilled, tempos don’t increase to much and there is no really huge choruses for example. I see it as not everyones ‘cup of tea’ if its not then you can just brush this one away, but if your into your chillwave, ambient sounds listen up to this. Id say its a purchase and a download, if your looking for a new act to get into don’t flock to buy it, but if your into it show some support.
